Rishikesh wears two identities that barely resemble each other. On one bank of the Ganga, it's India's self-declared yoga capital, full of ashrams, meditation retreats and the kind of quiet mornings that made the Beatles famous here in 1968. A few hundred metres away, the same river turns into grade II-IV white water depending on the stretch and season, making Rishikesh the adventure hub for rafting, bungee jumping, and riverside camping that most people now associate with the name.
This split matters when you're comparing packages, because "Rishikesh package" can mean completely different trips: a 16 km rafting stretch from Shivpuri to Rishikesh with a beach camp overnight, a short 9 km sunset rafting run, or a yoga-and-wellness retreat with barely any adventure activity at all. Always check which version of Rishikesh a package is actually selling before comparing price.
Rafting season also has a real cutoff: the Ganga's water level and flow rate make September to June the practical window, with the monsoon months (roughly mid-June to August) closed for rafting due to dangerously high water.
