Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. This site also uses your browser's local storage for a similar job. Below is each item we use and what it does. If we add something new, this page changes first.
The short version
- We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms.
- Your compare list lives in your browser and never leaves it until you open the compare page.
- Analytics and session recording (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) run through Google Tag Manager on the live site. You can block them from your browser settings.
1. What we use
| Name or source | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHP session cookie (usually PHPSESSID) | Essential cookie | Keeps you signed in, carries the CSRF token that protects forms, and shows one-time messages such as "enquiry sent". | Until you close the browser, or until you log out |
| tc_compare_packages | Local storage | Remembers the trips you added to the compare tray so they are still there when you move between pages. | Until you clear it or remove the trips |
| Google Tag Manager (googletagmanager.com) | Analytics | Loads the measurement tags we use to see which pages and searches are popular. Google Analytics may set its own cookies, such as _ga. | Set by the tag provider |
| Microsoft Clarity (clarity.ms) | Analytics | Records anonymised clicks, scrolling and page interactions so we can see where visitors get stuck. It may set cookies such as _clck and _clsk. | Set by the tag provider |
| Google Sign-In and YouTube | Third-party | Google handles sign-in if you choose it, and trip pages with video guides load an embedded YouTube player, which can set its own cookies once the video loads. | Set by the provider |
Two things are not cookies but are worth knowing. When you click Website, Call or WhatsApp on a trip, our server records the click, including your IP address and browser details, so operators can see interest in their listing. Blog pages also add one to a view counter. Both are covered in the Privacy Policy.
2. Fonts, icons and other outside files
We load fonts from Google Fonts, icons from cdnjs and jsDelivr, and some photographs from Unsplash. These are not tracking cookies, but your browser connects to those hosts, which can see your IP address and the page that asked for the file.
Turning cookies off
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear local storage. If you block the session cookie you will not be able to sign in or submit forms. If you clear local storage, your compare tray empties. To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, use Google's browser add-on. Microsoft explains how Clarity handles data at clarity.microsoft.com/terms.
