The Trek That's as Much About a Living Legend as the Scenery
Har Ki Dun is a valley trek rather than a summit push, which makes it gentler than most multi-day Himalayan routes, but what sets it apart is Osla village along the way - home to an ancient temple locals associate with Duryodhana from the Mahabharata, one of the few places in India where that side of the epic is actively worshipped rather than just referenced in myth.
The route runs from Sankri - the same base village used for Kedarkantha - through Osla and Seema to the wide, valley-floor meadow of Har Ki Dun itself, framed by the Swargarohini peaks, which legend ties to the Pandavas' path to heaven.
Difficulty & Season Breakdown
Graded moderate, Har Ki Dun is typically a 6-7 day round trip, gentler on the body than pass-crossing treks since it follows a valley rather than climbing to a high ridge. Best done May-June or September-December, with a snow-trek variant possible in winter for more experienced groups.
