Know before you go

The group travels overnight by train from Mumbai to Madgaon. A private AC vehicle then takes them to Kulem for the jungle trek to Dudhsagar Falls inside Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The operator states the Kulem-Dudhsagar-Kulem walk totals about 24 km. The trek goes through forest, stream crossings and sections of the railway route. Entering the waterfall itself is prohibited, and in heavy flow the trek towards the Dudhsagar bridge is not allowed by the Forest Department. After the trek the group stays overnight at a resort in Varca with a pool and spends some free time at Varca Beach before the train back to Mumbai.

Day 1

Mumbai to Madgaon by Matsyagandha Express

Overnight Train

Meet the team at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 02:30 PM and board the Matsyagandha Express (12619) at about 03:20 PM. The night is spent on the train.

Day 2

Kulem to Dudhsagar Falls trek and Varca stay

AC Resort, Varca

Arrive at Madgaon around 03:00 AM and drive by private vehicle to Kulem. Check in at the homestay, rest, and start the trek from Kulem Station towards Dudhsagar around 07:00 AM. Reach the falls around 09:00 AM and spend time there. Entering the waterfall is prohibited, and the Dudhsagar bridge stretch is closed in heavy flow. Return to Kulem, freshen up, then drive about 1 hour to the Varca resort for lunch and a swim in the indoor pool. Dinner at the resort.

Varca Beach leisure and return train

Overnight Train

Have breakfast at the resort and explore Varca Beach on your own (about 20 minutes' walk). Check out around 03:30 PM, stop at a market for dry-fruit shopping, then go to Madgaon station. Board the Konkan Kanya Express for Mumbai around 06:00 PM.
