Know before you go

The eight-day route includes Phutsirang acclimatization on Day 5 and Kaza lodging on Day 7. The 52 km headline equals the five main walking stages, excluding local rest-day walks. Pass height is rounded as 16,108 ft in facts and 16,106 ft in the route. Day 6 lists about 18 km but its duration field incorrectly says '10-12 km'; confirm expected hours rather than treating that unit as time. Transportation is explicitly included as Shimla-Kafnu and Mud-Manali in one section, but quick information adds INR 3,400 and generic exclusions charge pickup-to-base vehicles. Obtain a binding all-in quote; transport is not assumed free. The route's Day 8 road names and timings are condition-dependent. No complete dated seat inventory was verified.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Shimla to Kafnu

Shared guesthouse/homestay at Kafnu

The route begins with approximately 200 km driving in 7-8 hours via Narkanda, Rampur and Wangtoo to Kafnu. Confirm pickup and transfer charges because the page's cost sections conflict. Settle into the shared homestay or guesthouse for dinner.

Dinner
Day 2

Kafnu to Mulling

Twin-sharing tent at Mulling

Trek approximately 11 km in 7-8 hours, initially on the hydro-project access route before entering the forest trail. Continue beside the river and through changing woodland to the Mulling campsite. Expect a substantial first-day altitude gain.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 3

Mulling to Kara

Twin-sharing tent at Kara

Follow approximately 6 km in five hours through scattered forest, small boulders and stream-cut meadows. A river crossing near the confluence leads towards Kara. Use the field team's chosen crossing and pace rather than assuming a fixed bridge or water level.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 4

Kara to Phutsirang

Twin-sharing tent at Phutsirang

Ascend approximately 5 km in 4-5 hours to Phutsirang. The day begins with multiple river channels before the climb. Rain upstream or later-day flow can make crossings harder, so the guide determines timing and whether the route remains passable.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 5

Acclimatization at Phutsirang

Twin-sharing tent at Phutsirang

Remain at high camp to rest, recover and acclimatize before the pass stage. The operator suggests a short optional walk towards the river delta less than a kilometre away. Follow the leader's health assessment and prepare for an early start.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 6

Cross Pin Bhaba to Baldar

Twin-sharing tent at Baldar

Cover approximately 18 km via the pass and descend towards Baldar. Start before dawn for scree, possible snow and a long Pin-side descent. The time field is mislabeled '10-12 km'; the narrative describes several hours ascending followed by 5-6 hours descending, so confirm the full-day duration.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 7

Baldar to Mudh and Kaza

Shared guesthouse/homestay at Kaza

Walk approximately 12 km in 6-7 hours through the changing colours of Pin Valley and down to Mudh. Continue approximately 50 km by road to Kaza, listed at three hours. Stay at the included shared guesthouse or homestay; transport charges require clarification.

Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner
Day 8

Kaza to Manali Road Journey

No overnight stay

After breakfast, the published route continues approximately 200 km to Manali in 6-7 hours via high-road passes. Confirm the actual road alignment, opening status and paid/included transfer agreement; weather and road damage may extend the journey substantially.
